McDonnell Douglas MD-82, registered B-2102, serial number 49141, flew for the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), the state agency that operated all of China's commercial aviation before the industry was restructured into separate regional airlines beginning in 1988. As one of CAAC's original MD-82s acquired in the mid-1980s, the aircraft supported China's fledgling international jet network during an era of tightly controlled state aviation. Following CAAC's breakup, aircraft like B-2102 were distributed among the newly formed regional carriers that emerged, including China Eastern, China Southern, and Air China, marking a pivotal transition in Chinese civil aviation history.
Designed as a stretched and modified DC-9, the MD-80 was first flown on October 18th, 1979. © Copyright 2003-2026 The Flying Mule, Inc.
