Boeing 737-8AS, registered EI-DCL, was delivered new to Ryanair on October 1, 2004, wearing a special co-branded Boeing/Ryanair livery celebrating the manufacturer-airline partnership, later refreshed in 2014 to include Ryanair's golden harp emblem. Nicknamed the "Dreamliner" within the airline due to a reputation for frequent unreliability that has kept it based near maintenance facilities over the years, EI-DCL has nonetheless remained in continuous Ryanair service for over two decades. In 2019, pickle fork cracks were discovered that threatened retirement, but repairs proved less extensive than feared, and the aircraft returned to service within weeks. Designed as a smaller, short-ranged alternative to the Boeing 707 and 727, the 737 was first flown on April 9th, 1967. Over its long operational carreer, the 737 has spawned numerous variants ranging in capacity from less than 100 to more than 200 seats. In fact, the 737 series is the best-selling jetliner in aviation history with more than 6,500 aircraft manufactured to date and more than 4,500 still in service with over 500 airlines around the world. Incredibly, there is a 737 taking off or landing somewhere in the world, on average, every five seconds. © Copyright 2003-2026 The Flying Mule, Inc.
