Boeing 757-23A, registered N804AM, flew for Aeromexico as part of the Mexican flag carrier's fleet of Boeing 757-200s used on medium and long-haul international routes from Mexico City to destinations across the United States, Central America, and South America. Aeromexico's 757 fleet provided the airline with the range and capacity needed for its expanding North American network during a period before the carrier modernized toward 737NG, 787, and A320neo family aircraft. As one of the carrier's classic-era widebody-adjacent narrowbodies, N804AM represented an important chapter in Aeromexico's international route development.
Designed as a narrow-bodied, twin-engined airliner to replace the 727, the 757 was first flown on February 19th, 1982. Developed in tandem with the wide-bodied 767 twinjet, both aircraft share a common digital cockpit layout and are operated by a two man flight crew. Thanks to a proven reliability track-record, the 757 is approved for extended twin engine operations (ETOPS) making it a popular choice for airlines flying transatlantic routes.
