Boeing 757-2Q8, registered N490AM, flew for Aeromexico as part of the Mexican flag carrier's fleet of Boeing 757-200s supporting medium and long-haul routes connecting Mexico to destinations across North America. Aeromexico operated a substantial 757 fleet for years before transitioning toward more modern narrowbody and widebody aircraft, using the type on routes to the United States and Latin America that required greater range and capacity than its 737 fleet could provide. The aircraft has been depicted in a polished house-style livery in collectible model form, reflecting its era in Aeromexico's classic fleet.
Designed as a narrow-bodied, twin-engined airliner to replace the 727, the 757 was first flown on February 19th, 1982. Developed in tandem with the wide-bodied 767 twinjet, both aircraft share a common digital cockpit layout and are operated by a two man flight crew. Thanks to a proven reliability track-record, the 757 is approved for extended twin engine operations (ETOPS) making it a popular choice for airlines flying transatlantic routes.
