Airbus A340-541, registered F-WWTE, served as Airbus's house-liveried demonstrator for the A340-500, marketed as "The Longest Range Aircraft in the World" following its February 2002 first flight and December 2002 certification. The A340-500 briefly held the title of longest-range commercial airliner until Boeing's 777-200LR surpassed it in 2006, offering a range of roughly 8,650 nautical miles powered by four Rolls-Royce Trent 553 engines. Air Canada was originally slated as launch customer but delayed delivery due to a 2003 bankruptcy filing, allowing Emirates to become the type's first operator, launching nonstop Dubai-New York service.
Designed as a wide-bodied, long-haul passenger transport, the A340 was first flown on October 25th, 1991. © Copyright 2003-2026 The Flying Mule, Inc.
