McDonnell Douglas MD-11/ER, serial number 48746, had an extraordinary multi-carrier career spanning World Airways, Philippine Airlines, El Al, SonAir, Avianca, AV Cargo, and Global Africa Aviation. Manufactured in December 1995 and delivered in March 1996, the aircraft flew for El Al Israel Airlines at one point under registration N278WA during its long operational history, before later service with several African and Latin American carriers. Eventually converted to a freighter in 2012, the aircraft returned to Boeing ownership as N640BC and was placed in storage at Victorville, California, reflecting the remarkably diverse multi-decade career typical of secondhand MD-11 airframes.
