Boeing 737-59D, registered G-GFFA, was built in 1990 and flew for Linjeflyg, then SAS, before British Midland leased the aircraft from 1995, and finally British Airways acquired it in 2000, operating the jet for nearly a decade as part of BA's fleet of fifteen 737-500s. The aircraft connected regional UK and European destinations during BA's era of transition in narrowbody fleet composition. After deregistration in April 2009, the well-traveled 737 continued flying for Russia's Nordavia before eventually being scrapped at Bournemouth Airport in 2015, capping a nearly 25-year career spanning four different European airlines. Designed as a smaller, short-ranged alternative to the Boeing 707 and 727, the 737 was first flown on April 9th, 1967. Over its long operational carreer, the 737 has spawned numerous variants ranging in capacity from less than 100 to more than 200 seats. In fact, the 737 series is the best-selling jetliner in aviation history with more than 6,500 aircraft manufactured to date and more than 4,500 still in service with over 500 airlines around the world.
