Boeing 757-251, serial number 26262, entered service with Northern Pacific Airways as N627NP. The aircraft became part of the airline's fleet as it prepared to launch transpacific services linking the United States with Asia via Alaska. Configured with a two class passenger cabin, the 757-200 provides efficient medium haul operations and the flexibility to serve smaller international airports. Powered by Rolls Royce RB211 engines, the aircraft offers strong range and reliable performance. N627NP represents Northern Pacific Airways' strategy of using narrowbody aircraft for long distance international routes.
Designed as a narrow-bodied, twin-engined airliner to replace the 727, the 757 was first flown on February 19th, 1982. Developed in tandem with the wide-bodied 767 twinjet, both aircraft share a common digital cockpit layout and are operated by a two man flight crew. Thanks to a proven reliability track-record, the 757 is approved for extended twin engine operations (ETOPS) making it a popular choice for airlines flying transatlantic routes.
