Boeing 737-505, registered YL-BBE, flew for airBaltic as part of the Latvian flag carrier's original fleet of eleven 737-500s, the first variant of the Boeing 737 family that airBaltic operated before transitioning to more modern aircraft. airBaltic's 737-500 fleet joined the airline between 2003 and 2007, with most aircraft remaining in service through the 2010s before being phased out between 2010 and 2019. Following their airBaltic careers, the carrier's 737-500s went on to fly for a diverse range of operators including AeroSvit Airlines, Estonian Air, and various charter carriers across Europe and beyond. Designed as a smaller, short-ranged alternative to the Boeing 707 and 727, the 737 was first flown on April 9th, 1967. Over its long operational carreer, the 737 has spawned numerous variants ranging in capacity from less than 100 to more than 200 seats. In fact, the 737 series is the best-selling jetliner in aviation history with more than 6,500 aircraft manufactured to date and more than 4,500 still in service with over 500 airlines around the world. Incredibly, there is a 737 taking off or landing somewhere in the world, on average, every five seconds. © Copyright 2003-2026 The Flying Mule, Inc.
