Boeing 747-437, serial number 27214, entered service with Air India as VT-ESP in June 1994. Named "Ajanta," the aircraft joined Air India's flagship long haul fleet and operated intercontinental services from India to destinations across Europe, North America, and Asia. Powered by four Pratt & Whitney PW4000 engines, VT-ESP combined exceptional range with the passenger capacity required for Air India's busiest international routes. It spent its entire commercial career with Air India before being withdrawn from service in February 2020 and stored at Mumbai. The aircraft was eventually broken up there in March 2025.
Designed as a large capacity airliner and freight hauler, the 747 was first flown on February 9th, 1969. © Copyright 2003-2026 The Flying Mule, Inc.
