Boeing 737-846, registered JA330J, flies for Japan Airlines wearing the "Shimajiro Jet" special livery, themed around the popular Japanese children's character Shimajiro, aimed at promoting family travel and children's entertainment partnerships. As part of JAL's domestic 737-800 fleet, primarily configured with a 165-seat layout for Japan's high-frequency short-haul network, the aircraft has operated widely across the carrier's domestic route map. JAL has used character-themed liveries like this one on select aircraft to build brand affinity with younger passengers and families, a common practice among Japanese carriers competing for domestic leisure and family travel segments. Designed as a smaller, short-ranged alternative to the Boeing 707 and 727, the 737 was first flown on April 9th, 1967. Over its long operational carreer, the 737 has spawned numerous variants ranging in capacity from less than 100 to more than 200 seats.
