ATR 72-201, registered HS-TRB, was delivered new to Thai Airways on April 19, 1990, joining the carrier's regional turboprop fleet for short-haul domestic routes across Thailand. The aircraft served alongside sister ships like HS-TRA on Thai Airways' network before being transferred to Nok Air, the airline's low-cost subsidiary, in November 2009. This transition reflected a broader pattern of Thai Airways moving older regional aircraft to Nok Air as the parent airline modernized its fleet, extending the operational life of the turboprop under new ownership while supporting the group's regional connectivity strategy across secondary Thai airports.
