Airbus A330-200, registered OY-VKF, flew for Thomas Cook Airlines Scandinavia, the Nordic arm of the British travel group's airline division that operated alongside sister carriers in the UK, Belgium, and Germany under joint fleet management. The Danish-registered aircraft supported Thomas Cook's Scandinavian leisure routes connecting Northern Europe to holiday destinations, part of a fleet of shared A330-200s and A321s used interchangeably across the group's various national subsidiaries. Following Thomas Cook's September 2019 collapse, the Scandinavian operations were restructured, with the group's aircraft fleet dispersed among lessors and, in some cases, successor carriers like Sunclass Airlines.
Designed as a wide-bodied, long-haul passenger transport to compete with the Boeing 767, the A330 was first flown on November 2nd, 1992. It was designed as a lengthened version of the A300 and was developed in parallel with the larger, four-engined A340, enabling many of the components to be shared between the three types. The A330 also uses the same fly-by-wire technology that was introduced with the A320, featuring a glass cockpit and side-stick controllers.
