Boeing 767-332ER, initially intended as the private jet of then-Chinese leader Jiang Zemin around 2000, was ultimately deemed unsuitable for that VIP role after China United Airlines, the PLAAF's civil aviation arm, acquired it new. The aircraft instead was transferred to Air China as B-2499, standing out as the carrier's only General Electric-powered 767 amid an otherwise different engine fleet, making for a short operational career. It was stored at Beijing from 2012 before being leased in 2014 to Kazakhstan's SCAT Airlines as UP-B6703, where it continued flying, an unusual footnote in an aircraft once intended for the highest levels of Chinese leadership.

Boeing 767-300ER

Designed as a wide-bodied, twin-engined airliner to fill the niche between the narrow-bodied 707 and wide-bodied 747, the 767 was first flown on September 26th, 1981. Developed in tandem with the narrow-bodied 757 twinjet, both aircraft share a common digital cockpit layout and are operated by a two man flight crew. Thanks to a proven reliability track-record, the 767 is approved for extended twin engine operations (ETOPS) making it a popular choice for airlines flying transatlantic routes. With more than 1000 aircraft produced, the 767 is the second most prolific wide-bodied airliner after the 747.
