Airbus A330-941, serial number 1963, was delivered new to Orbest, the Portuguese leisure carrier, in August 2020, but the COVID-19 pandemic left the widebody with no immediate use, leading to storage at Spain's Castellon airport for the entire winter season. Registered CS-TKH, the aircraft finally entered revenue service on May 23, 2021, flying Lisbon to Cancun as the carrier rebranded to Iberojet Portugal under Spain's Avoris Corporacion, part of the Barcelo Group. As Iberojet Portugal's first A330-900neo, the aircraft marked the airline's transition to Airbus's re-engined widebody as international leisure travel began recovering from pandemic restrictions.
Designed as a wide-bodied, long-haul passenger transport to compete with the Boeing 767, the A330 was first flown on November 2nd, 1992. It was designed as a lengthened version of the A300 and was developed in parallel with the larger, four-engined A340, enabling many of the components to be shared between the three types. The A330 also uses the same fly-by-wire technology that was introduced with the A320, featuring a glass cockpit and side-stick controllers. The A330 has the same range and payload capacity as a DC-10 with 25% greater fuel efficiency. © Copyright 2003-2026 The Flying Mule, Inc.
