Airbus A320-214, registered B-LPF, flies for Hong Kong Express, the low-cost carrier owned by HNA Group alongside sister airline Hong Kong Airlines. The aircraft has notably worn a "Hong Kong Airlines Hybrid" livery, reflecting close corporate ties between the two HNA-affiliated carriers sharing branding elements. Operating from Hong Kong International Airport, B-LPF serves regional destinations across mainland China and Southeast Asia, including routes to Kunming. Hong Kong Express built its fleet around the A320 family to support high-frequency, budget-focused short-haul connections, distinguishing itself from full-service sister carrier Hong Kong Airlines while drawing on shared group resources and branding.
Designed as a short/medium range narrow-body airliner to compete with the Boeing 737, the Airbus A320 was first flown on February 22nd, 1987. The A320 features side stick controllers and glass cockpit and was the world's first airliner to use use a digital fly-by-wire control system. Controversially, the software includes "flight envelope protection" to prevent the pilot from exceeding safe flight parameters. The highly successful design rapidly led to the development of the shortened-fuselage A318 and A319, and lengthened-fuselage A321 derivatives. More than 4,500 of the A320 family have been produced, almost all of which are still in active service. © Copyright 2003-2026 The Flying Mule, Inc.
