Boeing 757-200, delivered on a May 2023 flight from Miami to Buenos Aires, became Argentina's new presidential aircraft, registered ARG-01. The VVIP-configured jet made headlines with a low, wing-down, gear-up flyby over Aeroparque Jorge Newbery upon arrival. Configured to carry up to 39 passengers with a master suite and two additional bedrooms, the aircraft restored Argentina's presidential air transport capability after sister aircraft "Tango 01" had been grounded for years amid political disputes over its cost and maintenance. The purchase included a $25 million Argentine government loan to finance the acquisition, ending a period without dedicated presidential jet service.
Designed as a narrow-bodied, twin-engined airliner to replace the 727, the 757 was first flown on February 19th, 1982. Developed in tandem with the wide-bodied 767 twinjet, both aircraft share a common digital cockpit layout and are operated by a two man flight crew. Thanks to a proven reliability track-record, the 757 is approved for extended twin engine operations (ETOPS) making it a popular choice for airlines flying transatlantic routes.
