Airbus A330-243F, previously operated as Qatar Airways Cargo's freighter, was acquired by Wizz Air in October 2020 and reregistered HA-LHU. The aircraft operates under the branding "Hungary Air Cargo" on behalf of the Hungarian government, marking Wizz Air's move into dedicated freight operations during the pandemic-driven downturn in passenger demand. As one of the airline's early diversification efforts beyond its core low-cost passenger model, the A330-200F represented a notable departure for Wizz Air, which otherwise operates an all-Airbus narrowbody fleet. The freighter has continued flying cargo routes under the Hungary Air Cargo identity in the years since.
Designed as a wide-bodied, long-haul passenger transport to compete with the Boeing 767, the A330 was first flown on November 2nd, 1992. It was designed as a lengthened version of the A300 and was developed in parallel with the larger, four-engined A340, enabling many of the components to be shared between the three types. The A330 also uses the same fly-by-wire technology that was introduced with the A320, featuring a glass cockpit and side-stick controllers.
