Airbus A320-271N, serial number 7495, wore the Airbus test registration D-AVVS before delivery to Tianjin Airlines on December 22, 2017, becoming the fifth A320neo in the Chinese carrier's fleet. Registered B-8953, the aircraft has flown domestic Chinese routes from hubs including Tianjin, Hangzhou, and Kunming. Tianjin Airlines, a subsidiary of HNA Aviation, operates a large regional fleet mixing A320s, A320neos, and Embraer regional jets across more than 140 domestic and international destinations. The airline has also pursued long-haul ambitions, launching services to Auckland, London Gatwick, and Moscow, positioning itself among China's more internationally minded regional carriers.
Designed as a short/medium range narrow-body airliner to compete with the Boeing 737, the Airbus A320 was first flown on February 22nd, 1987. The A320 features side stick controllers and glass cockpit and was the world's first airliner to use use a digital fly-by-wire control system. Controversially, the software includes "flight envelope protection" to prevent the pilot from exceeding safe flight parameters. The highly successful design rapidly led to the development of the shortened-fuselage A318 and A319, and lengthened-fuselage A321 derivatives.
