Airbus A330-243, registered F-UJCT, previously flew for Avianca Brasil as PR-OCX, entering that airline's fleet in March 2017 with no recorded commercial flights before being placed into storage. Selected for its low flight hours, the aircraft was accepted by France's Escadron de Transport 3/60 "Esterel" at Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport in December 2020, becoming the second of three A330-200s delivered under France's aerospace support plan. Like its sister aircraft, F-UJCT is being converted to A330 MRTT "Phenix" standard, joining France's growing fleet of Airbus tanker-transports supporting NATO and national refueling operations.
Designed as a wide-bodied, long-haul passenger transport to compete with the Boeing 767, the A330 was first flown on November 2nd, 1992. It was designed as a lengthened version of the A300 and was developed in parallel with the larger, four-engined A340, enabling many of the components to be shared between the three types. The A330 also uses the same fly-by-wire technology that was introduced with the A320, featuring a glass cockpit and side-stick controllers.
