Serial number 43344 identifies the Boeing 737 MAX 8 delivered to Belavia in April 2021, becoming the airline's only aircraft of the type after four sister jets from the same order were resold to other carriers. It briefly flew to Tel Aviv, Larnaca, Kyiv, and Warsaw before Belavia was banned from EU airspace following the 2021 Ryanair diversion incident. Grounded in Minsk for a year, the jet resumed flying only after Russia authorized MAX operations in its airspace, making Belavia the sole beneficiary of that decision. It crossed into Russian airspace for the first time in July 2022, since serving eastbound routes to the Caucasus, Central Asia, and Russia. The Boeing 737 MAX is an American narrow-body aircraft series being developed by Boeing Commercial Airplanes as the fourth generation of the Boeing 737, succeeding the Boeing 737 Next Generation. The first flight was on January 29, 2016. The 737 MAX is based on earlier 737 designs but re-engined with more efficient CFM International LEAP-1B along with aerodynamic improvements, most notably split-tip winglets, and airframe modifications.
