Bombardier Dash 8-100, registration C-GGPJ, was the fourth DHC-8 built and appeared at the Farnborough Airshow during the type's early demonstration years. Built by de Havilland Canada, which later passed through Boeing and then Bombardier ownership, C-GGPJ has been retained in company house colors as a historic reference airframe rather than sold into commercial service. Marked with a "40 Years in the Air" livery commemorating the Dash 8's 1984 introduction, it represents the earliest generation of the twin-turboprop family that grew into the 200, 300, and stretched 400 series. The aircraft remains a symbol of the type's origins as a Dash 7 successor.
Designed as a short-haul transport based on the Dash 7 design, the Bombardier Dash 8 (formerly de Havilland Canada DHC-8) was first flown on June 20th, 1983. Appearing to be a smaller, twin-engined version of the Dash 7, the Dash 8 design placed less emphasis on STOL (Short take-off and landing) capability and focused more heavily on economical operation. The two Pratt & Whitney PW100 engines mated to a very high aspect ratio wing enabled the Dash 8 to offer the lowest cost per passenger mile of any regional airliner of it's era. © Copyright 2003-2026 The Flying Mule, Inc.
