Boeing 757-200, delivered to lessor ILFC in April 2000, was leased to Swiss carrier Balair/CTA as HB-IHR. Repossessed by ILFC in October 2001, it was immediately leased to newly formed Belair Airlines, a Swiss charter carrier spun off from Hotelplan. Belair partnered with Rega, Switzerland's air rescue service, reconfiguring HB-IHR so it could serve as a medical evacuation aircraft when needed. Air Berlin took a growing stake in Belair from 2007, gaining full control by 2009, and repainted the jet in Air Berlin colors. The 757 was retired by November 2009 as Air Berlin standardized its long-haul fleet.

Boeing 757-200

Designed as a narrow-bodied, twin-engined airliner to replace the 727, the 757 was first flown on February 19th, 1982. Developed in tandem with the wide-bodied 767 twinjet, both aircraft share a common digital cockpit layout and are operated by a two man flight crew. Thanks to a proven reliability track-record, the 757 is approved for extended twin engine operations (ETOPS) making it a popular choice for airlines flying transatlantic routes. A total of 1050 aircraft were built before production ceased in 2004, however many airframes have since been retrofitted with drag-reducing blended winglets to help improve fuel economy.
