Airbus A330-941N, serial number 1861, operated by Air Belgium as OO-ABG. Built in 2019, the aircraft was originally intended for Air Berlin and was subsequently earmarked for RwandAir, but neither carrier took delivery. It eventually joined Air Belgium in 2021, becoming the airline's first A330-900 and departing Toulouse on its delivery flight in October. OO-ABG was used on Air Belgium's own long-haul services as well as wet-lease operations for other airlines. Following Air Belgium's decision to end scheduled passenger operations, the aircraft was withdrawn and ferried to Tarbes in March 2024. By May 2025, OO-ABG remained stored there with its engines removed.
Designed as a wide-bodied, long-haul passenger transport to compete with the Boeing 767, the A330 was first flown on November 2nd, 1992. It was designed as a lengthened version of the A300 and was developed in parallel with the larger, four-engined A340, enabling many of the components to be shared between the three types. The A330 also uses the same fly-by-wire technology that was introduced with the A320, featuring a glass cockpit and side-stick controllers.
