McDonnell Douglas MD-90-30, serial number 53551, entered service with Reno Air as N903RA before later joining Lion Air as PK-LIP. Built in 1996, the aircraft became part of American Airlines following its acquisition of Reno Air and subsequently joined Indonesian carrier Lion Air in 2005. Powered by two International Aero Engines V2525-D5 turbofans, the MD-90 offered improved efficiency and quieter operation compared with earlier MD-80 variants. PK-LIP operated domestic Indonesian passenger services until being withdrawn in April 2012. It was stored at Jakarta and ultimately broken up there in December 2013.
