Airbus A320-214, serial number 4433, operated by Air Berlin as D-ABFK. The aircraft first flew on September 1, 2010 and was delivered new to Air Berlin on September 13. In April 2014 it received the distinctive Bitburger "Fan Force One" promotional livery, later revised for 2016, making it one of Air Berlin's most recognizable special-scheme aircraft. Following Air Berlin's collapse, D-ABFK was ferried from Munich to Shannon on September 29, 2017 and became LZ-AWN. It joined IndiGo as VT-IHO in December 2017, serving until 2022, before transferring to Air Cairo as SU-BUU in July 2022.
Designed as a short/medium range narrow-body airliner to compete with the Boeing 737, the Airbus A320 was first flown on February 22nd, 1987. The A320 features side stick controllers and glass cockpit and was the world's first airliner to use use a digital fly-by-wire control system. Controversially, the software includes "flight envelope protection" to prevent the pilot from exceeding safe flight parameters. The highly successful design rapidly led to the development of the shortened-fuselage A318 and A319, and lengthened-fuselage A321 derivatives.
