De Havilland Canada DHC-8-102 Dash 8, serial number 78, operated by Time Air as C-GTAI. Built in May 1987, the aircraft was delivered new to Time Air on June 4, 1987 and became part of the Canadian regional carrier's rapidly expanding Dash 8 fleet. In May 1992 it was leased to Henson Airlines for USAir Express operations, while retaining its Canadian registration. C-GTAI returned to Canadian Regional Airlines in May 1995 and later passed through Air Canada Regional and Air Canada Jazz following consolidation of Canada's regional airline operations. Remarkably, the aircraft remained in Canadian regional airline service for decades after its original Time Air delivery.
Designed as a short-haul transport based on the Dash 7 design, the Bombardier Dash 8 (formerly de Havilland Canada DHC-8) was first flown on June 20th, 1983. Appearing to be a smaller, twin-engined version of the Dash 7, the Dash 8 design placed less emphasis on STOL (Short take-off and landing) capability and focused more heavily on economical operation. The two Pratt & Whitney PW100 engines mated to a very high aspect ratio wing enabled the Dash 8 to offer the lowest cost per passenger mile of any regional airliner of it's era. © Copyright 2003-2026 The Flying Mule, Inc.
