McDonnell Douglas MD-11, serial number 48486, line number 509, operated by LTU as D-AERX. First flown on July 25, 1992, it was delivered to LTU on August 21 and entered service four days later. Its final LTU flight occurred on November 1, 1998, by which time it had accumulated 25,820 flight hours and 6,095 landings. The aircraft subsequently became Swissair HB-IWT, then N15WF after leaving passenger service in 2002. Converted to an MD-11F in 2005, it flew for Transmile Air Services as 9M-TGS before joining FedEx in February 2011 as N643FE, continuing the former LTU airframe's career as an international freighter.
