Airbus A320-214, serial number 4433, operated by Air Berlin as D-ABFK. Built at Hamburg, the aircraft first flew on September 1, 2010 and was delivered new to Air Berlin on September 13. During its Air Berlin career, D-ABFK received the colorful "Fan Force One" promotional scheme for Bitburger, making it a particularly recognizable member of the fleet. Following Air Berlin's collapse, it was ferried to Shannon in September 2017 and subsequently became VT-IHO with IndiGo. After several years in India, the aircraft transferred to Air Cairo in 2022 as SU-BUU, with which it remains active.
Designed as a short/medium range narrow-body airliner to compete with the Boeing 737, the Airbus A320 was first flown on February 22nd, 1987. The A320 features side stick controllers and glass cockpit and was the world's first airliner to use use a digital fly-by-wire control system. Controversially, the software includes "flight envelope protection" to prevent the pilot from exceeding safe flight parameters. The highly successful design rapidly led to the development of the shortened-fuselage A318 and A319, and lengthened-fuselage A321 derivatives.
