Airbus A320-214, serial number 4567, operated by Avianca as N567AV. Built at Toulouse and delivered new to Avianca in February 2011, the CFM56-powered aircraft has spent its entire career within the Avianca group. Originally configured with 12 business and 138 economy seats, it was reconfigured to 12 business and 168 economy seats in 2022. In October 2022, N567AV received a distinctive TACA heritage livery honoring Transportes Aereos Centro Americanos, one of the major airlines incorporated into today's Avianca group. It remains active in 2026, operating routes from San Salvador to destinations including New York, Houston and Washington.
Designed as a short/medium range narrow-body airliner to compete with the Boeing 737, the Airbus A320 was first flown on February 22nd, 1987. The A320 features side stick controllers and glass cockpit and was the world's first airliner to use use a digital fly-by-wire control system. Controversially, the software includes "flight envelope protection" to prevent the pilot from exceeding safe flight parameters. The highly successful design rapidly led to the development of the shortened-fuselage A318 and A319, and lengthened-fuselage A321 derivatives.
