Boeing 727-264 Advanced, serial number 22158, line number 1642, operated by Mexicana as XA-MEF. Delivered new on July 18, 1980, the aircraft spent more than two decades with Mexicana and was known at different times as "Tula" and "Guadalajara." During the late 1990s it received a distinctive promotional scheme for the Chivas de Guadalajara soccer club, featuring red jersey-style stripes and the club crest on the forward fuselage. XA-MEF left Mexicana in December 2004 and subsequently joined Bolivia's AeroSur as CP-2462. It remained in service there until approximately 2010, completing a career of roughly 30 years.

Designed as a smaller, short/medium-ranged complement to the 707, the 727 was first flown on February 9th, 1963.
