Boeing 757-200, operated by Aeromexico as N490AM. The aircraft was one of the Boeing 757s used by Aeromexico to expand medium- and long-range services during the 1990s and 2000s. Wearing the airline's classic silver-fuselage color scheme for much of its career, N490AM operated routes linking Mexico City with destinations throughout North America and Latin America. Aeromexico's 757s were particularly valuable on routes requiring greater range and performance than the airline's smaller narrowbody aircraft could provide. N490AM eventually left the fleet as Aeromexico standardized its narrowbody operations around Boeing 737s, while Boeing 767s and later 787 Dreamliners assumed the carrier's longer-range international missions.

Boeing 757-200

Designed as a narrow-bodied, twin-engined airliner to replace the 727, the 757 was first flown on February 19th, 1982. Developed in tandem with the wide-bodied 767 twinjet, both aircraft share a common digital cockpit layout and are operated by a two man flight crew. Thanks to a proven reliability track-record, the 757 is approved for extended twin engine operations (ETOPS) making it a popular choice for airlines flying transatlantic routes. A total of 1050 aircraft were built before production ceased in 2004, however many airframes have since been retrofitted with drag-reducing blended winglets to help improve fuel economy.
