Gulfstream Aerospace Gulfstream V, serial number 689, operated by the Japan Coast Guard as JA501A and carrying service code LAJ501. Originally registered N689GA during production, the long-range business jet entered Japan Coast Guard service in November 2004. Rather than serving as a conventional executive aircraft, JA501A has been employed for long-range maritime surveillance, patrol and government missions, giving the Coast Guard considerably greater range and speed than its smaller patrol aircraft. Based principally at Tokyo Haneda, it has remained in service for more than two decades. JA501A was still active in 2026, including a July visit to Appleton, Wisconsin.
