In 2012, VAQ-136 "Gauntlets" operated EA-6B Prowlers aboard the USS George Washington (CVN-73), the forward-deployed aircraft carrier with the U.S. 7th Fleet in Yokosuka, Japan. The squadron provided electronic warfare support, jamming enemy radars and communications to ensure mission success and air superiority during carrier operations. VAQ-136 participated in joint exercises and patrols across the Asia-Pacific, enhancing regional security and interoperability with allied forces. This was the squadron's final year aboard the George Washington before transitioning back to NAS Whidbey Island, Washington, and preparing to upgrade from the EA-6B Prowler to the modern EA-18G Growler.
Developed from the EA-6A Electronic Intruder, the EA-6B is a carrier-based electronic warfare aircraft that was first flown on May 25th, 1968. The Prowler is a key element in any USN or USMC strike-force by disrupting and jamming enemy radio and radar signals, providing protection for attacking aircraft as they carry out their mission. The aircraft can also be equipped with anti-radiation missiles desigend to home-in on enemy radar installations and neutralize surface-to-air missile threats. After a long history with the EA-6B, the US Navy began transitioning to the F/A-18G Growler in 2009. © Copyright 2003-2024 The Flying Mule, Inc.
JC's 1:72 scale EA-6B in an ambitious model with a significant number of configurable options. The fuselage is constructed mostly from diecast metal with smaller details made from plastic. Configurable components include weapons and extended/retracted landing gear as well as numerous opening access panels and extended/folded wing options. The weapons and landing gear attach with small magnets rather than press-fit plastic tabs and slots. Not only does this make configuration and reconfiguration easy, it reduces the risk of parts being damaged if the model is disturbed or mishandled once displayed.
