VAQ-133 (Tactical Electronic Warfare Squadron) "Wizards" was first established in 1969 equipped with the Douglas EKA-3B Skywarrior. Originally stationed in California the "Wizards" moved to NAS Whidbey Island, Washington in 1971 and reequipped with the EA-6B Prowler. In 1992 VAQ-133 was disestablished only to be reestablished in 1996 and re-designated VAQ-133 (Electronic Attack Squadron) in 1998. From July 2007 until January 2008 VAQ-133 EA-6B Prowler 161120 / NL-530 (c/n P-84) was based at Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan to support Operation Enduring Freedom. 161120 later transferred to VAQ-131 Lancers as NE-501.
Developed from the EA-6A Electronic Intruder, the EA-6B is a carrier-based electronic warfare aircraft that was first flown on May 25th, 1968. The Prowler is a key element in any USN or USMC strike-force by disrupting and jamming enemy radio and radar signals, providing protection for attacking aircraft as they carry out their mission. The aircraft can also be equipped with anti-radiation missiles desigend to home-in on enemy radar installations and neutralize surface-to-air missile threats. After a long history with the EA-6B, the US Navy began transitioning to the F/A-18G Growler in 2009. © Copyright 2003-2024 The Flying Mule, Inc.
JC's 1:72 scale EA-6B in an ambitious model with a significant number of configurable options. The fuselage is constructed mostly from diecast metal with smaller details made from plastic. Configurable components include weapons and extended/retracted landing gear as well as numerous opening access panels and extended/folded wing options. The weapons and landing gear attach with small magnets rather than press-fit plastic tabs and slots. Not only does this make configuration and reconfiguration easy, it reduces the risk of parts being damaged if the model is disturbed or mishandled once displayed.
