US Navy Attack Squadron 72 (VA-72) Blue Hawks was the new designation given to VF-72 on January 3rd, 1956. The squadron transitioned from the F9F Panther to the A-4 Skyhawk before upgrading to the A-7 Corsair II in January, 1970. The Blue Hawks deployed many times with the A-7 on various Nimitz class carriers. The squadron's final deployment was aboard the USS John F. Kennedy in 1991 and flew combat missions during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. After returning from the Gulf, the squadron was disestablished on June 30th, 1991.

The CAG aircraft #AC400 was painted in this stunning desert camouflage scheme for the squadron's return trip. In addition to wearing the "Desert Storm" title, the aircraft has several "Camel" symbols below the canopy rail, indicating the number of missions flown during Operation Desert Storm.

Vought A-7E Corsair II

Designed as a longer-range, higher-payload replacement for the A-4 Skyhawk, the A-7 Corsair II was first flown on September 27th, 1965. This aircraft entered service during the Vietnam war and later became one of only a few US Navy aircraft to serve with the US Air Force. It possessed cutting edge technologies; it was one of the first aircraft to use a turbofan engine, an internal navigation system and a "head-up" display. Late in its career, A-7s were used for pilot training and were parked outside of hangars in order to draw the attention of Soviet spy satellites away from the fledgling F-117.

JC's 1:72 scale A-7 Corsair II model does great justice to this iconic aircraft. No detail has been overlooked, from the tinted bulletproof windscreen to the complete set of removable wing- and fuselage-mounted ordnance. This model has an opening hinged canopy with detailed pilot figure, two nose-mounted pitot tubes and arrestor hook detail. Details of the gear actuator and hydraulic lines are visible in the wheel wells. Its most unique feature is its steerable nose wheel, a finishing touch that is uncommon in any scale.
