Boeing 747-400, operated by Eva Air as B-16411. Eva Air used the aircraft as part of its scheduled passenger or freight network. This four-engine widebody belonged to an era when very large aircraft were central to high-capacity international flying. Its individual registration marks a specific airframe that participated in the operator's long-haul network before changing economics increasingly favored efficient twin-engine aircraft. The type's service history reflects the shift from large four-engine flagships toward newer A350, 787, and 777 families, while preserving an important chapter in the airline's fleet development. Designed as a short-range twin-jet transport, the DC-9 was first flown on February 25th, 1965. Since shorter routes frequently required operation from small airports, the design focused on short-field performance. The most significant decision was to move the engines from under the wings to the tail, enabling the use of full-span flaps, reducing the possibility of foreign-object ingestion and lowering ground clearance for easier servicing at small terminals. The DC-9 spawned many variants leading to the MD-80, MD-90 and Boeing 717. In total, almost 2,500 aircraft were built over a period of more than 40 years. © Copyright 2003-2026 The Flying Mule, Inc.
