Boeing 757-2K2, operated by the Royal New Zealand Air Force as NZ7571. Originally delivered to Transavia as PH-TKA, the aircraft was acquired by New Zealand in 2003 to replace the RNZAF's Boeing 727s. After military conversion, it joined No. 40 Squadron at RNZAF Base Auckland for strategic passenger, freight, government, deployment, and humanitarian missions. Modifications included a strengthened main-deck floor, cargo-handling capability, air stairs, and military communications equipment. NZ7571 has supported New Zealand forces and government missions throughout the Pacific and around the world, often operating alongside sister aircraft NZ7572 as the RNZAF's principal long-range jet transport.
Designed as a narrow-bodied, twin-engined airliner to replace the 727, the 757 was first flown on February 19th, 1982. Developed in tandem with the wide-bodied 767 twinjet, both aircraft share a common digital cockpit layout and are operated by a two man flight crew. Thanks to a proven reliability track-record, the 757 is approved for extended twin engine operations (ETOPS) making it a popular choice for airlines flying transatlantic routes.
