Airbus A330-323X, construction number 1243, operated by Malaysia Airlines as 9M-MTE. Delivered in August 2011 after flight testing as F-WWYP, the aircraft joined the carrier's long-serving A330 fleet for regional and medium-haul international routes from Kuala Lumpur. It was painted in oneworld alliance colors in January 2013 and later reconfigured from 36 business and 247 economy seats to 27 business and 263 economy seats. Powered by Pratt & Whitney PW4000-series engines, 9M-MTE has served destinations across Asia, Australia, India, and the Middle East and remained active with Malaysia Airlines into 2026.
Designed as a wide-bodied, long-haul passenger transport to compete with the Boeing 767, the A330 was first flown on November 2nd, 1992. It was designed as a lengthened version of the A300 and was developed in parallel with the larger, four-engined A340, enabling many of the components to be shared between the three types. The A330 also uses the same fly-by-wire technology that was introduced with the A320, featuring a glass cockpit and side-stick controllers. The A330 has the same range and payload capacity as a DC-10 with 25% greater fuel efficiency. © Copyright 2003-2026 The Flying Mule, Inc.
