Boeing 737-400, operated by Icelandair as TF-FID. The aircraft belongs to a generation that played a major role in the expansion of its operator's network before newer, more fuel-efficient types arrived. Icelandair used the aircraft through its Keflavik hub, exploiting Iceland's location between Europe and North America to connect the two continents with narrowbody and mid-sized widebody aircraft. The aircraft's service reflects the transition from late twentieth-century jetliners to today's quieter and more economical fleets. Examples of this type frequently changed operators later in life, and many widebody and narrowbody airframes subsequently found second careers with charter, cargo, or overseas airlines.
