Boeing 757-200, operated by Eva Air as B-27021. The aircraft belongs to a generation that played a major role in the expansion of its operator's network before newer, more fuel-efficient types arrived. EVA Air used the aircraft from Taipei on regional and long-haul services, building a reputation for a modern international fleet and extensive connections between Asia and North America. The aircraft's service reflects the transition from late twentieth-century jetliners to today's quieter and more economical fleets. Examples of this type frequently changed operators later in life, and many widebody and narrowbody airframes subsequently found second careers with charter, cargo, or overseas airlines.
Designed as a narrow-bodied, twin-engined airliner to replace the 727, the 757 was first flown on February 19th, 1982. Developed in tandem with the wide-bodied 767 twinjet, both aircraft share a common digital cockpit layout and are operated by a two man flight crew. Thanks to a proven reliability track-record, the 757 is approved for extended twin engine operations (ETOPS) making it a popular choice for airlines flying transatlantic routes.
