Boeing 777-200ER, operated by Etihad Airways as A6-LRB. The aircraft provided long-range twin-engine capability with substantial passenger and cargo capacity. Etihad used the aircraft from Abu Dhabi during the airline's rapid long-haul expansion, with widebody types forming the backbone of services to Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa, and North America. The airframe represents the period in which long-range twinjets increasingly replaced older three- and four-engine aircraft, offering airlines lower fuel burn and maintenance costs while retaining the range needed for nonstop international flying. Designed as a wide-bodied, twin-engined airliner to compete with the Airbus A330/A340 and the McDonnell Douglas MD-11, the 777 was first flown on June 12th, 1994. A pair of the world's largest diameter turbofan engines power the aircraft which currently holds the record for world's largest twin-engined airliner. The 777 was Boeing's first fly-by-wire airliner, featuring complete glass cockpit displays and flight envelope protection.
