Airbus A350-900, operated by Sichuan Airlines as B-304U. Powered by Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines, the A350-900 combines a largely composite airframe with long range and improved fuel efficiency. Sichuan Airlines based much of its operation at Chengdu, using the aircraft to expand from a strong domestic network into longer international services while maintaining a predominantly Airbus fleet. The airframe represents the period in which long-range twinjets increasingly replaced older three- and four-engine aircraft, offering airlines lower fuel burn and maintenance costs while retaining the range needed for nonstop international flying.
