Airbus A320-214, serial number 5331, operated by Beijing Capital Airlines as B-6952. The aircraft first flew in September 2012 using Airbus test registration F-WWIO and was delivered to Capital Airlines the following month. Powered by two CFM International CFM56-5B engines, it served domestic and regional passenger routes from China. On August 28, 2018, B-6952 encountered severe windshear while landing at Macau, resulting in a hard landing and significant damage. The crew subsequently diverted the aircraft to Shenzhen. Although the passengers and crew survived, the damage was substantial enough that the aircraft was written off, bringing its relatively short six-year service career to an end.

Airbus A320

Designed as a short/medium range narrow-body airliner to compete with the Boeing 737, the Airbus A320 was first flown on February 22nd, 1987. The A320 features side stick controllers and glass cockpit and was the world's first airliner to use use a digital fly-by-wire control system. Controversially, the software includes "flight envelope protection" to prevent the pilot from exceeding safe flight parameters. The highly successful design rapidly led to the development of the shortened-fuselage A318 and A319, and lengthened-fuselage A321 derivatives. More than 4,500 of the A320 family have been produced, almost all of which are still in active service.
