Boeing 767-200ER, operated by Britannia Airways as G-BRIF. The aircraft served during an important period in the development of the airline's route network. Its combination of capacity, range, and dependable performance made it useful on scheduled passenger services linking major cities and regional destinations. Aircraft of this generation became familiar sights at airports around the world and helped airlines expand frequencies and open new markets. Although later designs introduced quieter engines, lower fuel consumption, improved avionics, and more modern cabins, the type earned a strong reputation for reliable service and remains an important part of commercial aviation history.
Designed as a wide-bodied, twin-engined airliner to fill the niche between the narrow-bodied 707 and wide-bodied 747, the 767 was first flown on September 26th, 1981. Developed in tandem with the narrow-bodied 757 twinjet, both aircraft share a common digital cockpit layout and are operated by a two man flight crew. Thanks to a proven reliability track-record, the 767 is approved for extended twin engine operations (ETOPS) making it a popular choice for airlines flying transatlantic routes.
