Boeing 757-200, operated by Aeromexico as N301AM. The aircraft served during an important period in the development of the airline's route network. Its combination of capacity, range, and dependable performance made it useful on scheduled passenger services linking major cities and regional destinations. Aircraft of this generation became familiar sights at airports around the world and helped airlines expand frequencies and open new markets. Although later designs introduced quieter engines, lower fuel consumption, improved avionics, and more modern cabins, the type earned a strong reputation for reliable service and remains an important part of commercial aviation history.
Designed as a narrow-bodied, twin-engined airliner to replace the 727, the 757 was first flown on February 19th, 1982. Developed in tandem with the wide-bodied 767 twinjet, both aircraft share a common digital cockpit layout and are operated by a two man flight crew. Thanks to a proven reliability track-record, the 757 is approved for extended twin engine operations (ETOPS) making it a popular choice for airlines flying transatlantic routes.
