De Havilland Canada Dash 8-300, operated by US Airways Express as N337EN. The aircraft served during an important period in the development of the operator's route network. Its combination of capacity, range, and dependable performance made it useful on scheduled passenger services linking major cities and regional destinations. Aircraft of this generation became familiar sights at airports around the world and helped airlines expand frequencies and open new markets. Although later designs introduced quieter engines, lower fuel consumption, improved avionics, and more modern cabins, the type earned a strong reputation for reliable service and remains an important part of commercial aviation history.
Designed as a short-haul transport based on the Dash 7 design, the Bombardier Dash 8 (formerly de Havilland Canada DHC-8) was first flown on June 20th, 1983. Appearing to be a smaller, twin-engined version of the Dash 7, the Dash 8 design placed less emphasis on STOL (Short take-off and landing) capability and focused more heavily on economical operation.
