Boeing 757-200, operated by RNZAF as NZ7571. The aircraft serves in a military transport and government-support role, using a proven commercial airliner platform to move personnel, officials, equipment, and other priority loads. Its combination of range, reliability, passenger capacity, and worldwide support makes the type well suited to long-distance military operations. The aircraft can support routine transport, deployments, exercises, and official travel while offering substantially better efficiency than older generation transports. Its service demonstrates how successful civil airliner designs can be adapted effectively to specialized defense and government requirements.
Designed as a narrow-bodied, twin-engined airliner to replace the 727, the 757 was first flown on February 19th, 1982. Developed in tandem with the wide-bodied 767 twinjet, both aircraft share a common digital cockpit layout and are operated by a two man flight crew. Thanks to a proven reliability track-record, the 757 is approved for extended twin engine operations (ETOPS) making it a popular choice for airlines flying transatlantic routes.
