VC-137C, #62-6000, was the first of two customized Boeing 707s built at Boeing's Renton to serve as presidential transports. Entering service in 1962, it served as the primary Air Force One for Presidents Kennedy, Johnson, and Nixon. It used the callsign "Air Force One" when the President was on board and "SAM 26000" (Special Air Mission 26000) otherwise. In 1972, a second VC-137C, #72-7000 entered service and #62-6000 was retained as backup until 1998. The aircraft is now on display at the National Museum of the United States Air Force near Dayton, Ohio.
