Boeing EC-18D, serial number 81-0895, operated by the United States Air Force. Derived from the Boeing 707-320 airliner family, the EC-18 was configured as a specialized test and instrumentation aircraft supporting missile, spacecraft, telemetry, and range missions. Its large airframe provided the endurance, electrical capacity, and internal space required for extensive communications and electronic equipment. Aircraft 81-0895 served as part of the USAF's specialized test community, where modified commercial transports performed missions far removed from ordinary passenger service. The EC-18 family illustrates the versatility of the Boeing 707 design and its long military career in numerous specialized roles.
Designed as a Cruise Missile Mission Control Aircraft, the EC-18D was a modified version of the 707 and was first flown in 1986. © Copyright 2003-2026 The Flying Mule, Inc.
